Prague · Footsteps in Dry Stone

Restorers working beneath St. Vitus heard leather soles on spiral stairs that hadn’t been open since the war. Dust lay undisturbed; the sound climbed anyway.

One mason marked each night’s clicks on limestone: twelve, pause, seven—always the same cadence, as if someone rehearsed a route only they could walk.

The crypt’s iron gate is welded shut now. The footsteps continue on recordings made in sealed rooms.
